Please check the following before requesting doner for Seagate HDD HEADSWAP.

 

Model number: Match exactly.

Heads map: Match exactly. It is OK if the donor has more heads than the original drive, but all heads before that should match.

Serial number: Match the second and third characters, as well as the first character.

Firmware (7-series or earlier): Optional, but match the firmware number for drives that are 7-series or earlier.

Site code: Match the site code, which indicates the location of manufacture.

Part number: Match the first half of the part number. If the second half also matches, it is likely to be an even better match.

Date code: Convert the date codes and match within three months of each other.

 

In other words, the donor drive should have the same model number, heads map, serial number, firmware (if applicable), site code, and part number as the original drive. The date code should also be within three months of the original drive's date code.
