Aqualyx® is an injectable fat-dissolving treatment that targets small, stubborn pockets of fat that don’t always respond to diet or exercise. It is not a weight-loss solution, but rather a contouring treatment designed for patients who are looking to improve definition.
It contains a specially formulated compound that works to break down fat cells, which are then naturally eliminated by the body. This makes it an increasingly popular non-surgical alternative for patients seeking subtle contouring without the downtime of more invasive procedures.

Aqualyx® is an injectable product that when injected into fat deposits, literally destroys the fat cells, which are then excreted the fat via your lymphatics so that the end result is reduction in the double chin and improved neck chin profile.
The primary active component is deoxycholic acid, supported by other ingredients which ensure stability and reduce irritation. The solution works to disrupt the membranes of fat cells (adipocytes), causing them to break down and release their fatty contents. The fat is then processed by the liver and naturally eliminated through the body’s metabolic pathways.
During the procedure, a series of small injections are made into the chosen area using fine needles or cannulas. The solution spreads evenly through the fatty tissue, where it starts to break down fat cells over the following days and weeks., results are long-lasting, as treated fat cells are permanently destroyed.
Treatment only takes about 5-10 minutes and involves up to tiny injections in total, using tiny acupuncture sized needles.

Double chins are not necessarily due to excess weight. Some normal and slim people can also be susceptible to storing fat in this area, even if they are healthy and active. It is often due to genetic predisposition. Facial structure can also emphasise the problem.

However, it’s important to note that the treatment does not prevent new fat cells in untreated areas from enlarging. Maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle is key to keeping results long-lasting.
After Aqualyx® treatment , the injected solution breaks down the targeted fat cells by disrupting their membranes. Once these cells are destroyed, they can’t store fat again.
The released fatty contents are processed in the same way as dietary fats: they are transported through the lymphatic system to the liver, where they are metabolised and eliminated naturally by the body.
Most patients describe Aqualyx® injections as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful . You may feel a slight sting or pressure when the solution is injected, and some areas can be more sensitive than others, such as the chin or under the jaw.
To make the procedure more comfortable, our clinicians may apply a topical numbing cream before treatment, and any soreness or tenderness afterward usually settles within a few days.
It may sting for about 5-10 minutes and then feel like a dull ache.
After treatment, the area can feel very hot as the chemical gets to work, breaking down the fatty deposits. This is helped by using a cold compress after the injections. You can also take regular painkillers if you wish (i.e. paracetamol or ibuprofen).
Any discomfort should subside within a few hours.
Aqualyx® is quite well tolerated and side-effects tend to be quite minor and short term.
You can expect some initial swelling after treatment. This will be noticeable for the first 7-10 days that then settles over the next few weeks.
Aqualyx® isn’t instant, it takes around 4 weeks for the fat to be expelled from the body. However, each treatment session will start the process and trigger further improvements. Optimum results will be developed by around 4-6 weeks after your final treatment session.
Normally 1-4 treatment sessions are advised to get the best results. These will be carried out about 4-6 weeks apart.
We often recommend a course of treatments because each successive session will destroy an additional amount of fat, gradually improving the contour of the chin.
Your treatment plan will be discussed and agreed at your first consultation appointment with the Doctor/Surgeon who would be carrying out the treatment.
Once the fat cells have been removed from your body they’re gone. You cannot produce more fat cells, so results can be permanent.
However, if you gain weight, the remaining/existing fat cells can increase in size.

Apply a cold compress to the treated areas every 4-6 hours for the first few days. You can take some ibuprofen or paracetamol for and mild discomfort. Gentle massaging of the area with moisturising cream will help the lymphatics drain the fat droplets and prevent minor lumpiness.
